According to a legend, a Brahmin hermit told Jaisal that Krishna and Arjuna had come here and they predicted that a ruler would one day construct a fort along the crest known as Trikuta or triple peaked hill. That hill is where the Jaisalmer fort now stands. The Jaisalmer Fort is also known as the Golden Fort Sonar Kila. So, the desert city of Jaisalmer is also known as the Golden City.
